Council members work together with the community to improve the prosperity of residents by enhancing the town’s caring community spirit, protecting the environment, and retaining the town’s character.

Letter of Intent and/or Expressions of Interest should be received in writing by the Clerk/Treasurer by 10am on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 and they will be considered in the January 11,  Council meeting.

Description Overview: Essential Duties: The principal job of a Town Council is to make Town policy in the form of ordinances or resolution. Darrington Town Council consists of 5 members and is responsible for the legislative management of the town. In doing so, council members analyze community needs, programs, alternatives and available resources. As a member of the town council, he/she must provide the public full access to information about the conduct of government, except where doing so would violate individual privacy rights and the efficient administration of government. It is not the role of the council member to supervise city employees on the job or become involved in the day-to day administration of city affairs. A council member must be available to attend predetermined meeting dates and occasionally travel out of area. Council members are required to obtain periodic educational trainings and occasionally attend municipal seminars and meetings.   

Minimum Qualifications: The statements contained in this Minimum Qualifications section reflect general details as necessary to perform the principal functions of this position.

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must be a registered voter of Darrington
  • Must be a resident of Darrington and live within town limits for a period of at least one year
  • Be honest, consistent, flexible
  • Must have the long-term public interest of the entire community in mind when making council decisions
  • Must be able to attend predetermined day and night meetings (occasional travel)
  • General knowledge of town ordinances, resolutions, policies and procedures
  • General knowledge of Roberts Rules of Order
  • General knowledge of Public Records Act
  • Willingness to work together as a team
